Free Speech for Teacher but not Student

Apparently, the first amendment right to free speech in public schools (at least in Fort Worth) is only accorded to teachers with an agenda, but not to students expressing their beliefs to a friend. As reported in a Fox News Article, Dakota Ary, an honor student and football player, was suspended from school for turning to a friend and saying “I’m a Christian and, to me, being homosexual is wrong.”

This blog is not about the relative merits of his argument, but the incredible assault by the left on our children in public schools. Young Dakota Ary did not just blurt this statement out in the middle of a lesson on the conjugation of German verbs. He made the statement when class discussion turned to a conversation about religion and homosexuality in Germany. According to Ary, “I guess [the teacher] heard me. He started yelling. He told me he was going to write me an infraction and send me to the office.” Now apparently it is fine for a teacher to attempt to influence his class with his political agenda, but how dare a student make a statement of his beliefs!

And this is not the first time this molder of young minds has fostered this kind of discussion… Matt Krause, an attorney with the Liberty Counsel, was quoted: “There has been a history with this teacher in the class regarding homosexual topics. The teacher had posted a picture of two men kissing on a wall that offended some of the students. He told the students this is happening all over the world and you need to accept the fact that homosexuality is just part of our culture now.”

What is a ninth grade German teacher doing fostering a sexual agenda in class regardless of its nature? And believe me; if the news accounts are accurate, he has an agenda. Sherlock Holmes is not needed to decipher that mystery. So the teacher initiates an inappropriate discussion and punishes a student for disagreeing with his world view? It sadly emphasizes how politically corrupted our public school systems have become that I am not in the least surprised.

I suspect that if young Dakota had stated that his religion says that all taxes are good and that opposing them is a sin, he would have been just fine. The gospel of the first amendment according to the left: Free speech is fine as long as you agree with us.

  1. Who ever said school was a "free speech zone." Hell, boys, I used to get sent home from school for wearing jeans that didn't have a friggin' SEAM on the side. If you don't like homos, that's nice. Whatever. Just keep your yap shut. Don't ask, don't tell.

  2. By the way, I object to the fact that the CAPTCHA I just had to enter to post the above post contained the letters "t-e-a-t". I found that to be sexist and unnecessary. I insist that you balance this by having the letters "b-a-l-l-s" show up in my next CAPTCHA. Thank you.

  3. Nice to see you commenting Parky. If the teacher doesn't want opinion, he shouldn't initiate the discussion.

  4. Parky, sorry the sexist CAPTCHA. GWB must be controlling it. I'm amazed you could actually see it. They usually take me about 5 tries before I can get one I can figure out.
