Death Knell for Obama's 2012 Campaign Sounds in New York

The 9th Congressional District of New York has been a Democratic stronghold for over 80 years, represented in the past by such liberal luminaries as Sen. Charles Schumer and Geraldine Ferraro.  Since 1999, the seat has been held by Anthony Weiner, who resigned in disgrace in June after a "sexting" scandal.  By the way, how did it take a congressman named Weiner 12 years to start sending crotch shots all around the internet?  But I digress.

Yesterday, Republican Bob Turner defeated Democrat David Weprin in the special election to replace Weiner (did I really just write that?) in the 9th.  Turner's victory is the latest and loudest shot across the bow of the Obama re-election campaign.  If the Democrat machine in New York can't get a liberal Jew elected in a district where Dems outnumber Republicans 3 to 1, then Obama 2012 is in a very precarious position.

Personally, I am thrilled that Jewish voters have finally realized that the Democratic Party has betrayed them at every turn.  Although Weprin and Turner have very similar views on Israel, the vote is a repudiation of Barack Obama's insistence that Israel return to pre-1967 borders.  Add in Weprin's support for gay marriage, and you have a monumental win for the GOP.  Are you listening Barry?

  1. Best Tweet of the day when Turner was declared winner was by @matthewhurtt who said, "I wonder if the Dems want to go back to pre-1967 borders of NY-09."

  2. @Jill - That is a great tweet.

Learned Crew, how can someone so smart be so ignorant? This district has always been a problem for the democrats. Besides, we know that the man-made global warming has significantly degrad.ed the decision making processes of those in former democratic strongholds. Everyone knows it was one of GWB's many evil plots.
