Arkansas Atheists- Charlie Brown Must Go!

A Christmas Story, Miracle on 34th Street, blah blah blah.  For my money, the absolute best holiday program is A Charlie Brown Christmas.   First airing in 1965, ACBC has become an annual treat, and is must-see TV in the Crew household.  It airs tonight on ABC at 8pm EST.  I'm not sure why it appeals to me so much, I've always had a fondness for classic comics and Charlie and the gang are the standard-bearers.  The incredible piano score and that droopy little tree always get me!

You know who doesn't like A Charlie Brown Christmas?  Atheists.  Specifically, Arkansas atheists.  An elementary school in Little Rock is under fire from the "Arkansas Society of Free-Thinkers" for daring to transport their students to a live performance of ACBC at a local church.  The play is set for Dec. 14th during the school day.  Students who CHOOSE to attend the event (it is not mandatory), will be required to pay $2 each to cover the cost of school bus transportation.

Anne Orsi, vice-president of the aforementioned "Free-thinkers" commented thusly.....

"We're not saying anything bad about Charlie Brown.  The problem is that it's got religious content and it's being performed in a religious venue, and that doesn't just blur the line between church and state, it oversteps it entirely."

I checked out the website of these brain-dead crapweasels, and found the following statement amongst their "goals".

...to inform people of their First Amendment freedoms of and from religion, and to monitor and promote the awareness of local separation of church and state issues.

Atheists worship at a wall just like those at the Wailing Wall, they just do it in front of the mythical "Wall of Separation".  We've covered this numerous times at SACSTW, the separation of church and state is completely fictitious, and the First Amendment certainly offers no "freedom from religion" to the individual.  Heck I thought, maybe down in Arkansas there is such a theory, let's consult the Arkansas State Constitution....

We, the People of the State of Arkansas, grateful to Almighty God for the privilege of choosing our own form of government; for our civil and religious liberty; and desiring to perpetuate its blessings, and secure the same to ourselves and our posterity; do ordain and establish this Constitution.

"Almighty God", "blessings".......Yep sounds like a secular document to me.  Quite frankly, I am weary of this incessant bleating from the atheists that their rights are being violated by someone else's kid watching A Charlie Brown Christmas.  Of course the crap they spew piles higher and deeper this time of year, so I guess I should just thumb my nose at them and move along.  Would that they could do the same.

9/11 Cross: Dear Atheists, Quit Whining!

You know, growing up, I had a much different mental picture of atheists.  Being a child of the Cold War, my first awareness of atheists were the godless-commies who wanted to bomb us into oblivion.  Later, I discovered American atheists.  These were hard-core inflexible people who were so confident of their own knowledge and intellectual superiority that Pope John Paul II, Mother Teresa, and Billy Graham together couldn't soften their heart towards God.

My how things have changed.  It is nothing new for atheists to file lawsuits to get any remotely religious symbol or artifact removed from any public place other than a church, synagogue, or mosque. But when did they become such mentally and emotionally unstable sissies?  I have always found it narcissistic in the extreme that atheists can be so sure of their depth and breadth of knowledge that they can claim categorically that God does not exist, but at least I could respect the strength of their convictions.  Now, not so much.

Case in point:  The lawsuit they have filed to have the 9/11 cross removed from the the National September 11 Museum and Memorial. Again, this isn't surprising for them.  I would have been more surprised if they hadn't sued to have it removed.  Of course, they trot out the old and tired "separation of church and state" argument which we previously debunked in the blog post "Atheists Want to Starve Children!".  I think they realize that their chance for success arguing the establishment clause is unlikely at best because they have added a new strategy.  It is the "We are giant wusses!" strategy.  Light years from the steely-eyed Russian soldiers or the maniacal crazed atheists of the '70s and '80s, today we have the kinder, gentler, metrosexual, sensitive atheists. In addition to their constitutional challenge, the American Atheists say the cross should removed because it hurts their feelings. According to the Washington Compost the lawsuit asserts:
"The presence of the cross would result in injury — emotional and even physical in the case of extreme anxiety — to atheists left feeling excluded from what should be a place of unity and healing."
Yes devoted readers, you heard it here first.  The very sight of the cross causes physical injury to atheists.  I can hear them now... "It burns!  It burns!"  Wait... wrong group.  That's Obama and the Democrats.  Probably more like, "I am so depressed that I don't even have the energy to get in my Prius and drive to Starbucks for a pumpkin latte. I think I'll just lay around my eco-friendly condo in my North Face jammies, have a tofu burger, and listen to Alesana CDs. I may even have to call my doctor to up my meds."

Oh, the humanity...

Please remember to pray today for the family members of those who perished on 9/11 and for our country.  Never Forget!

The Cross Stays! Don't Like It? Tough!

How About Some Civil Disobedience from the Right?

Apparently some atheist group has their wee-wee all warm over a cross in a fire department parking lot that has been there for 91 years.  It is a memorial to World War I veterans in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.  The Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation-FFRF (pronounced firf) has written a letter to the mayor of Woonsocket, Leo Fontaine, demanding its removal. To mayor Fontaine's credit, he stated:  “I have no intention of removing the cross under any circumstances.”

The problem is that the town of Woonsocket, like many other town's, is having financial difficulties and cannot afford to fight Firf in court.  I have a suggestion for Mayor Fontaine.  Civil disobedience.  I mean liberals are all about civil disobedience, right?  Obama, Pelosi, Holder, Ellen Barkin, et. al. are all for the OWS protesters camping, crapping, and disrupting people wherever the feel like it, so I'm sure that they would support a little town's fight to keep their 91 year old memorial.  Right?

Here is a letter of response I would write to Rebecca Market, senior staff attorney for Firf.  Mayor Fontaine is more than welcome to use the entire letter or any parts of it he wishes.  I would feel honored if he did.

Dear Ms. Market,
Thank you so much for your inquiry about our memorial honoring our fallen veterans of World War I.  We respectfully decline your request.  While we are glad the people of Wisconsin have taken interest in our town, we intend to decide on these matters for ourselves.
Your dubious understanding of the establishment clause of the first amendment to the constitution aside, we discourage you from making this a legal matter. It would be a waste of time and money on your part.  We will not spend one dollar of town funds nor one minute of anyone's time addressing this matter in court.  It will make no difference.  We are neither moving or removing the memorial from where it currently resides.
Any attempt by outsiders to molest the memorial will be vehemently rebuffed.  I have authorized a permanent protest permit for the area immediately surrounding the memorial.  Local 2nd amendment protesters will be campaigning for a new concealed carry law.  They will be protesting 24 hours a day.  Current town law states that citizens are allowed to carry loaded firearms, but they must be prominently displayed.  Any attempt to disrupt this protest would be seriously ill-advised.
Thank you again for your inquiry.  I consider this matter concluded. I will make no further responses regarding this issue.
Sincerely,
Mayor Leo Fontaine, Woonsocket, Rhode Island
As that I am not conversant in Rhode Island concealed carry laws, that part of the letter could require some editing, but I think it would make a good first draft.  I think Mayor Fontaine should tell Firf to stuff it.  The memorial stays and if it requires civil disobedience to keep it there, so be it.
